Mexico beach tourism surge

Overview

In July, tourism officials noted that while Argentina’s Atlantic coast struggled with low hotel occupancy, Mexico’s beach town of Progreso was nearly fully booked, reaching about 95 % of its beach‑house capacity.

By early August, the surge continued, with more than 1,095,000 visitors recorded at Playa Miramar and Progreso. Local authorities highlighted coordinated lifeguard, civil‑protection, transit and rescue services that kept the beaches safe and well‑organized, and no incidents were reported during the peak period.
