Mexico City sustainable bond issuances
Overview
Mexico City has expanded its use of sustainable financial instruments to fund urban and social initiatives. Following the success of its 2025 Green Bond, which raised 3 billion pesos to finance the construction of Cablebús Lines 5 and 6, the city received the ‘Urban Transport Financing of the Year’ award at the Projects & Infrastructure Finance Awards.
Building on this momentum, the city government announced plans to issue its first sustainable ‘Pink Bond’. Certified by Sustainable Fitch, this new instrument is designed to raise funds for projects promoting gender equality and environmental sustainability. The initiative seeks to address social disparities, including the gender wage gap and rates of violence against women.
