Mexico environmental management and recycling initiatives

Overview

Mexico is expanding its environmental management through various recycling and monitoring initiatives. In the State of Mexico, the ‘ElectroRecicla’ campaign collected over 15 tons of electronic waste between January and July 2026. This program involved government agencies exchanging obsolete devices for ecological incentives, with waste being processed by the Mexican Association of Electrical and Electronic Recyclers to recover valuable components.

Furthering these efforts, Mexico City inaugurated a seventh permanent Reciclatrón station in Xochimilco to provide residents with dedicated disposal sites for electronics and batteries. Additionally, in Tamaulipas, the municipality of Tampico launched the PROAIRE program, installing six air quality monitoring stations to track meteorological variables and air quality data for public health management.
