Mexico expands free mental‑health programs

Overview

In late July 2026, Mexican officials announced free mental‑health sessions in the tourist city of Cancún and in Veracruz, offering Hekalogía® workshops and nutrition talks through the Red Cross. These events required online registration and targeted a broad audience with topics ranging from gut health to child behavior.

A few days later, Mexico City reported a city‑wide expansion of its mental‑health services. The Social Development System (DIF CDMX) disclosed that more than 10,000 people had received psychological care under a suicide‑prevention and early‑depression‑detection strategy between January and July 2026. The program provided weekly counseling to individuals at risk of suicide and was supported by the city Health Secretariat, local universities, and private partners. Concurrently, a legislative proposal was introduced to mandate comprehensive depression prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation measures across the city’s boroughs, citing urban stressors such as traffic congestion and pollution as contributing factors.
