Coordinated raids in July 2026 sparked a wave of prosecutions across Mexico, especially in Veracruz, where police rescued victims, seized vehicles, drugs and illegal confinement cases, and filed 111 charges covering homicide, extortion, drug trafficking and crimes against minors. The effort intensified after Attorney General Ernestina Godoy’s August 2 meeting with state, municipal, Navy and National Guard officials to improve intelligence sharing on organized crime and fuel theft. Godoy emphasized that joint efforts would produce robust investigations, stating, “Never before have we had the opportunity to work together and achieve results. Together we can do it.” In Veracruz, the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) has continued its ‘Zero Impunity’ strategy. Between August 24 and August 30, 2026, the FGE executed 59 search warrants across 39 municipalities in the North, Center, and South zones of Veracruz, including Xalapa and Tuxpan. These operations, conducted alongside the Secretariat of National Defense, the Secretariat of the Navy, the National Guard, and municipal authorities, resulted in the arrest of 38 individuals. Violence persists during enforcement. In early September 2026, two federal agents, Emmanuel Santamaría Alvarado and Luis Manuel Castillo Melo, were killed and one woman was injured during an armed attack in Omealca, Veracruz, while investigating a kidnapping case near Paso Amapa. During the confrontation, two kidnapped individuals were rescued. Governor Rocío Nahle García reported the agents were pursuing a criminal group from Oaxaca when the clash occurred. Following the attack, security forces from the Navy, Army, and state police reinforced strategic points in Córdoba.
