Mexico law enforcement crackdown expands

A judge ordered preventive detention and, on 25 July, formally set the case for trial, noting the pair’s alleged ties to Miguel “MK”, son of former cartel leader Felipe de Jesús Pérez Luna.

In Veracruz, the State Attorney General’s Office reported a series of coordinated actions. Four individuals in Poza Rica and the municipality of Veracruz were linked to kidnapping and aggravated extortion, while four others in Alvarado faced charges for violent offenses, crimes against public‑security institutions, health‑related crimes and bribery. Within a 24‑hour period the office secured 24 judicial resolutions, including eight convictions, fifteen formal imputations and ten orders of preventive detention. The arrest of “Comandante Levi” for qualified homicide in a 2025 killing in La Triste, Yanga, was also announced. All defendants remain under preventive detention as investigations proceed, underscoring a nationwide push against homicide, drug‑related, extortion and gender‑based crimes.
