Mexico political party federal financing distribution
Overview
The Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) has published the federal public financing distribution for Mexico’s political parties for the 2027 electoral cycle. The National Electoral Institute (INE) approved a total of 10,842,653,927 pesos to be shared among eight national political parties and independent candidates.
This funding is categorized into approximately 7,879 million pesos for ordinary activities and 2,363 million pesos for electoral campaigns. Morena is slated to receive the largest share at 3,604.9 million pesos, followed by PAN (1,803.7 million pesos), PRI (1,372.7 million pesos), and Movimiento Ciudadano (1,354.7 million pesos). Newly formed parties Somos México and Paz are each allocated 246.6 million pesos. While distribution is primarily based on previous election results, this rule did not apply to the newly created parties.
As part of this funding, parties must allocate 236,379,950 pesos—3% of their ordinary federal public financing—toward strengthening women’s political leadership through training and development programs, subject to INE auditing.
In a broader budgetary development, the INE and the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary (TEPJF) have requested a total of 51 billion pesos to manage the 2027 elections. This request covers the selection of 21,000 popular representation positions, including the renewal of the entire Chamber of Deputies, 17 state governorships, 1,098 local deputies, and 2,204 municipal presidencies. Of the requested total, 17.453 billion pesos are designated for direct electoral operations, such as logistics and polling station installation. The final budget is subject to approval by the Chamber of Deputies in November.
