As part of the 2027 Economic Package planning, the Mexican Chamber of Deputies' Finance Commission is analyzing specific adjustments to the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS). Data indicates that while beer accounts for 93.1% of the volume of alcoholic beverages sold in Mexico, it contributes only 63.3% of IEPS revenue, whereas distilled spirits represent only 6.3% of volume but 33.3% of tax collection. To address this, deputies are considering a price hike on beer of between 60 cents and one peso per unit, potentially contributing 6.5 billion pesos to the treasury.
