To address this, deputies are considering a price hike on beer of between 60 cents and one peso per unit, potentially contributing 6.5 billion pesos to the treasury. López Carrillo noted that adjustments must also consider the impact of falling agave prices on rural employment and community stability.

However, the proposal has met resistance from political leadership. Ricardo Monreal, the Morena parliamentary coordinator, dismissed the reports as speculation, stating there are “no concrete plans to increase taxes on beer or high-sodium products.” He emphasized that the Morena party prefers to focus on combating tax evasion and elusion rather than imposing new burdens on families, noting that officials will wait for the formal presentation of the Economic Package before discussing fiscal matters.
