Mexico technological expansion and AI export growth

Mexico has significantly expanded its role in the global technological landscape through new international partnerships and a surge in high-tech exports.

In September 2026, Mexico strengthened its technological ties by signing memoranda of understanding with China and Spain. The agreements with China focus on cooperation in artificial intelligence, supercomputing, robotics, and electromobility. Simultaneously, the framework with Spain aims to enhance bilateral ties in cybersecurity, connectivity, and the use of digital technologies for managing climate change and natural disasters.

By October 2026, Mexico emerged as a critical player in the artificial intelligence supply chain. Products linked to AI accounted for approximately 27% of Mexico’s total exports, a figure higher than those of China and the United States. Driven by demand for semiconductors, servers, and electronic components, Mexico’s exports of advanced technological products to the United States reached $151.354 billion between January and August 2026, marking a 62.24% increase over the previous year. In August 2026, Mexico became the leading provider of AI development inputs to the U.S. market.
