MHP poultry industry expansion
Overview
Ukrainian agro-food group MHP is pursuing expansion through investments in Moldova and the acquisition of Trend Foods.
MHP has proposed an initial investment of at least 20 million euros in Moldova to develop poultry meat processing capacities, including a slaughterhouse and processing plant with an annual capacity of approximately 50,000 tons. The project utilizes a contract farming model where local Moldovan farmers raise broilers for MHP facilities. To support this, the company is requesting the removal of trade barriers between Ukraine and Moldova regarding poultry, feed, and related products, while seeking guarantees for poultry exports from Moldova to the EU.
Additionally, MHP has acquired the remaining 30% stake in Trend Foods, the producer of the RyabChick brand, gaining full control over its technology and trademarks. While MHP manages global operations, the previous owner retains exclusive licensing rights to produce and sell RyabChick products in the USA and South Korea, where production facilities are planned at an estimated cost of $2 million.
