Miami child abuse and arson case
Overview
Meliza Campos-Sanchez, a 26-year-old Cuban national, was arrested in Miami-Dade following an investigation into social media videos posted to her Instagram account. The footage allegedly showed Campos-Sanchez setting fires in her kitchen while wearing a silver mask and pouring hot candle wax onto herself and her two young daughters, aged three and six.

In subsequent legal proceedings, the defense requested mental health evaluations to determine her competency, with her husband noting she had stopped taking prescribed medications. Additionally, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer against Campos-Sanchez, seeking custody to facilitate her removal from the United States once legal proceedings conclude.
