Microsoft 365 outages July 2026
Entities: Microsoft Outlook · Microsoft SharePoint · Microsoft Teams · Microsoft Corporation · Microsoft Copilot
Overview
The first incident on 5 July 2026 disabled Outlook calendar sharing and Teams for thousands of North‑American users after a server‑side traffic‑handling fault, prompting over 11 000 incident reports. Microsoft rerouted traffic and patched related bugs, restoring services within hours while warning of a concurrent SharePoint vulnerability.
A second, larger outage began on 23 July 2026, spreading from the North America hub to customers worldwide. The disruption knocked out Teams, Outlook, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Copilot, Power BI, Power Apps and other linked services. Microsoft traced the cause to a recent network‑configuration change, rolled it back at 11:22 PM IST, and had the platforms back online by 11:56 PM IST.
On 25 July 2026 the outage manifested in the Asia‑Pacific region, affecting more than 7 000 users. Teams could not join meetings or make calls, and related failures hit SharePoint and Exchange Online. Exchange experienced a memory‑consumption error after a server‑architecture change, mistakenly quarantining legitimate emails and blocking calendar access. Microsoft reported that roughly 70 % of the issue was resolved and continued to restore affected mailboxes, noting no cyber‑attack or data loss.
Later on 25 July, a concurrent outage began on the U.S. East Coast at about 10:30 a.m. ET, knocking out Teams, Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint and Xbox Live and generating more than 6 000 complaints. Microsoft said the problem stemmed from internal traffic‑routing issues and highlighted a critical SharePoint vulnerability (CVE‑2026‑50522, CVSS 9.8). In parallel, the company paused the rollout of a Teams @‑mentions search feature and Copilot‑driven Outlook search suggestions while it reassesses AI‑driven functionality. These successive disruptions underscore enterprises’ heavy reliance on Microsoft’s cloud productivity stack and how single configuration or infrastructure changes can generate widespread, multi‑region service interruptions.
