Microsoft OneDrive and Windows software updates

Microsoft has introduced several updates regarding its OneDrive service and Windows operating system.

On macOS, Microsoft is rolling out a new native sync engine for OneDrive designed to improve performance, reduce CPU usage, and extend battery life on MacBooks. This update aims to make initial synchronization and on-disk state changes approximately twice as fast. For organizational users, synced SharePoint document libraries will now appear as individual root locations in the Finder sidebar rather than being nested under a single entry.

In Windows, Microsoft is providing users with more control by allowing them to opt out of OneDrive backups during the initial setup of new computers, preventing the automatic syncing of documents, photos, and desktop files. Additionally, the company announced ‘Project Zenith’, a specialized Windows configuration for developers intended to provide a ‘ready-to-code’ experience. This configuration will require high-end hardware, including at least 64 GB of unified memory, and is expected to launch on systems featuring AMD chipsets.
