Mika Moring murder trial in Finland
Overview
In August 2026, the North Savonia District Court in Kuopio began hearing the case of Mika Moring, accused of murdering Saara Arva during a 2019 road trip. Prosecutors allege Moring killed Arva with a utility knife, kept her captive for months, and later disposed of her body, which was found in April 2024. The trial opened on 13 August and was expected to span several days.
During the proceedings, Moring appeared in a hood and refused to uncover his face. Prosecutors highlighted mobile‑phone location data showing a period when the device was turned off, arguing the gap coincided with the time of the murder and body disposal. The defence suggested the gap could simply reflect a dead battery.
Testimony also included statements from Moring’s mother, who expressed shock and claimed she knew no violent side to her son, while the court examined forensic and digital evidence. Prosecutors are seeking a custodial sentence of at least nine and a half years.
