Overview

To commemorate the centennial years of jazz musicians Miles Davis and John Coltrane, music labels are releasing significant vinyl and digital reissues. Craft Recordings is scheduled to release part of its ‘Original Jazz Classics’ series on October 9, featuring 180-gram vinyl pressings sourced from original master tapes. Additionally, Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings will reissue the box set ‘Miles Davis & John Coltrane – The Complete Columbia Recordings 1955-1961’ on November 6, a collection that has been unavailable for more than 25 years.

The reissues highlight the shared musical legacy of the two artists, who were both born in 1926. Their professional history includes Coltrane’s tenure in Davis’s ‘First Great Quintet’ between 1955 and 1960, a relationship that included a period of separation following Davis’s dismissal of Coltrane in 1957 before they eventually reunited to record influential works.
