Military helicopter crashes in South America and Southeast_A

Overview

On November 3, 2026, a Peruvian Army Agusta 109K helicopter crashed in the El Cenepa district of the Amazonas region. The aircraft was performing quality control flights over minefields for humanitarian demining operations. The Army reported the crash was caused by meteorological conditions, resulting in the death of one technician, Germán Teylor Núñez Cabrejos. Other crew members and passengers remained in stable condition.

On November 4, 2026, an Indonesian Army Mi-17V5 helicopter, registration HA-5235, crashed in the waters near Seruyan Regency, Central Kalimantan. The aircraft was engaged in a water bombing mission to combat forest and land fires near Tanjung Puting National Park. The helicopter reportedly encountered difficulties after taking off from Kuala Pembuang. Preliminary findings suggest the aircraft may have struck power lines obscured by heavy smoke, causing it to plunge into the water.

Of the eight personnel on board, one death was confirmed and five survivors were hospitalized in Kuala Pembuang. Search and rescue operations were conducted by the Ministry of Forestry and the Army to locate the remaining two crew members. The Indonesian Army is currently investigating the exact cause of the crash.
