Minas Gerais government administration and development

Overview

The government of Minas Gerais is managing administrative transitions and new state initiatives. Governor Mateus Simões has established a timeline for the upcoming administration transition, emphasizing transparency through recorded meetings. During this period, Professor Wagner de Paulo Santiago was reappointed as the rector of the State University of Montes Claros (Unimontes) for the 2026–2030 term.

To ensure public accountability, the Governor announced that the transition process will be guided by professionalism, featuring meetings that are both recorded and live-streamed. A schedule of sessions between state secretariats and the incoming administration’s team is set to take place primarily between October 23 and November 23. These meetings are intended to provide reports on current programs, financial accountability, and critical priorities for the new government’s first 90 days.

Vice Governor-elect Luiz Eduardo Falcão, who is coordinating the transition team, has presented a group of 20 specialists to Governor Simões. This team includes experts in Law, Health, Education, and the Environment, tasked with organizing the data required for the new management to assume office without disrupting state services. This follows previous concerns raised by the transition team regarding a projected R$ 9 billion deficit for 2027 and significant debt to the Union.

In terms of development, the state has launched the second edition of the HubMG Gov program, an R$ 20 million innovation initiative. Additionally, land regularization efforts are being advanced by Sede-MG and Cohab Minas, including registration efforts in Timóteo for the Primavera Housing Complex.
