Brazil expands mobile health and service units nationwide

Since July 2026, Brazil’s mobile-health drive has accelerated across federal, state, and municipal levels. Minas Gerais rolled out its “Governo Presente” Praça de Serviços fairs in Sete Lagoas, Passos, and Governador Valadares, delivering over 125,000 free services. The state also advanced primary care with new basic health units in Capitão Andrade and Carmo do Rio Claro. The federal “Agora Tem Especialistas” programme expanded its reach with specialist caravans, including women’s-health units in Manguinhos and the Federal District, and mobile units for Indigenous peoples in Ceará, Pernambuco, Amapá, and Pará. In Piên, the program added a 28-seat adapted bus to transport patients to hospitals in the Curitiba metropolitan area. In Imperatriz, a mobile imaging truck arrived to provide ultrasound and CT scans to reduce waiting lists. Outreach expanded through “Governo do Brasil na Rua” fairs and specialized mobile units. In Paranavaí, the “Carreta da Saúde da Mulher” began providing gynecological consultations and biopsies to women from 28 municipalities. In Cuiabá, Sesc-MT launched mobile units offering Pap smears, mammograms, vision exams, and dental procedures. In Guaratinguetá, a new “Carreta da Saúde da Mulher” launched in partnership with the Ministry of Health, aiming to provide 1,520 monthly appointments. In Rio Branco, Acre, a mobile women's health unit has also begun operations at the Centro de Controle Oncológico do Acre (CECON). Expanding this specialized outreach, the Ministry of Health deployed a mobile medical unit to Petrolina, Pernambuco, under the “Agora Tem Especialistas” programme. The unit provides early diagnosis for breast and cervical cancer, including mammographies, ultrasounds, and biopsies, serving Petrolina, several surrounding municipalities, and the indigenous population of Truká. Mozart Sales, Secretary of Specialized Health Attention at the Ministry of Health, noted that Pernambuco currently hosts five mobile units, including specialized vehicles for women's health, ophthalmology, and tomography.
