In August 2026, the Romanian government approved the reopening of the Cătălinu and Ungurelașu graphite mines in Gorj County. This estimated 400 million euro investment involves extracting magnesite rocks from the Valea Dobra deposit and processing them into high-purity magnesium hydroxide and magnesium oxide for use in construction, plastics, and metallurgy.
