Missing tourist search in Chirripó National Park
Overview
A search and rescue operation was launched in Costa Rica’s Chirripó National Park following the disappearance of a tourist, Reinaldo Pineda Lizano, who separated from his group in the Valle Los Conejos sector.
Initial efforts involved the National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC) deploying 15 brigadists, mountain paramedics, and the Costa Rican Red Cross to search strategic routes including Las Morrenas.
After five days, search teams—including the ENA Tourism Association and the SOS Chirripó group—located the man in the Las Morenas sector, approximately 800 meters off the main trail. He was found suffering from dehydration and bruises but was reported to be in stable condition.
