Mizo Zirlai Pawl student advocacy and protests
Overview
The Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), a prominent student organization in Mizoram, has initiated several actions to address grievances regarding governance and education.
Initially, members staged a demonstration outside the Mizoram Public Service Commission (MPSC) office in Aizawl. Protesters demanded structural reforms and criticized the One Time Registration (OTR) system, calling for it to be replaced by post-specific application forms. While the protest was largely peaceful, a brief scuffle occurred between police and protesters during attempts to access the office.
Following these protests, the MZP expanded its advocacy by meeting with state authorities. In discussions with Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena, the organization raised concerns regarding the conduct of central investigating agencies, such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), alleging they have operated in the state without local government approval.
The group also met with Governor Vijay Kumar Singh to address unfilled engineering seats in Hyderabad allotted to Mizoram under the Central pool quota, as well as to continue discussions regarding reforms to the MPSC to restore student confidence.
