Infinity Ward has provided details regarding the DMZ mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Set in the Hajin Exclusion Zone, the mode is described as an action-oriented extraction shooter featuring an open-world environment with dynamic weather and over 60 points of interest. Players will utilize a Forward Operating Base (FOB) to manage progression, equipment, and supplies. The FOB includes features such as a 3D printer for crafting, a Gunsmith, and various vendors. The mode includes a 70-level progression system and a persistent economy involving cash and crafting materials. Gameplay involves balancing exploration with the risk of losing items upon death, featuring increased AI density, including Lieutenants and Commanders. New information indicates the mode will also feature a bounty system where players can act as ‘Hunters’ or ‘Killers’ in PvP encounters. A Bounty Leaderboard system, accessible via the FOB, tracks the top 50 ‘Most Wanted Operators’ and the top 50 ‘Bounty Hunters’. The Most Wanted status, earned by eliminating rivals, can be cleared if a player dies without extracting. Additionally, players can locate five fixed lieutenant towers on the Hajin map, marked on the Tac-Map with orange-brown icons, to complete specific objectives. Digital pre-orders grant early access to the campaign starting October 16, 2026, and the DMZ mode on October 20, ahead of the full worldwide launch on October 23, 2026. Following each DMZ incursion, players receive a performance report detailing collected items and a grade ranging from ‘F’ to ‘S++’. The mode also features a threat level system, ranging from ‘Low’ to ‘Extreme’, to indicate AI enemy density. Following the October 20 release of early access, initial player feedback has noted effective gunplay and movement.
