Monclova fuel market and illegal sales crackdown

Overview

Gas station owners in Monclova, Coahuila, have voiced their support for a recent operation conducted by the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR). The operation led to the closure of a service station suspected of selling illegal fuel, referred to as ‘huachicol’.

Local entrepreneurs, including Juan Gerardo Oyervides Rodríguez, stated that the intervention demonstrates effective coordination between federal and state authorities to combat the illicit hydrocarbon market. Business owners emphasized that legal operators face economic disadvantages due to regulated prices and competition from those evading taxes and regulations. The sector is now calling for expanded investigations to dismantle illegal distribution networks and ensure a ‘level playing field’ for compliant businesses.

Recent coordinated operations by the FGR have expanded across several Mexican states. In Coahuila, a search in Monclova resulted in the seizure of over 47,000 liters of fuel alongside the closure of a service station.

In Nuevo León and Tamaulipas, authorities seized approximately 700,000 liters of fuel and arrested 14 people during raids on storage centers. A separate operation in Pesquería, Nuevo León, following a fire, led to the seizure of 62,000 liters of hydrocarbon and several specialized transport vehicles.

In Yucatán, a raid in Umán resulted in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of 100 liters of diesel from a property used for clandestine distribution. Additionally, operations in Veracruz targeted illegal LP gas distribution in José Azueta and hydrocarbon storage in Carrillo Puerto and Tlalixcoyan, where nearly 4,800 liters were recovered. In Tamaulipas, a gas station in Ciudad Madero was seized due to suspected irregularities in fuel dispensing.
