Monongahela River boat-barge collision

Overview

A recreational boat carrying five people collided with a commercial barge on the Monongahela River near Rices Landing in Greene County. The collision caused the smaller craft to capsize.

Initial reports indicated that two occupants were rescued by a tugboat pilot, while one woman died at a hospital and a man was hospitalized. Following an extensive search and recovery operation involving divers, sonar, and helicopters, the bodies of the remaining missing boaters were recovered.

Later reports identified the four deceased as Eric Rockwell, 56, Racquelle Rockwell, 56, Renee Epps, and Brian Selvoski, 57. One survivor remains in critical condition. In response to the accident, community fundraising efforts and GoFundMe campaigns have been established to assist the families with medical and funeral expenses.
