Montez Sweat NFL suspension

Overview

Chicago Bears defensive end Montez Sweat was issued a two-game suspension without pay following a violation of the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy. The suspension forced Sweat to miss matchups against the Atlanta Falcons and the New England Patriots, during which time the Bears won both games.

Sweat described the violation as an “accidental” and “surprise” occurrence, stating he did not intend to cheat and takes full responsibility. As a result of the suspension, Sweat is reportedly forfeiting approximately $2.3 million in salary and has voided remaining contract guarantees totaling about $12.7 million. He has since returned to practice and is expected to rejoin the lineup for the game against the Seattle Seahawks.
