Morena party territorial and membership expansion

The Morena party in Mexico is undergoing extensive territorial organization and membership expansion across various states.

In Michoacán, the party has completed the installation of municipal councils in all 20 municipalities, with leaders emphasizing party unity and community engagement to support the administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum. Regional efforts include social protections in Quintana Roo and environmental initiatives in Oaxaca.

In Tamaulipas, the party reported reaching approximately 390,000 certified affiliates, surpassing its initial goal of 300,000. State leader Lupita Gómez Núñez indicated that the party is now focused on transitioning this membership base into a functional political structure organized across neighborhoods, rural communities, and municipalities to prepare for the 2027 midterms and the 2028 gubernatorial election.

Morena is also strengthening its positioning through legislative dominance and strategic appointments. In the State of Mexico, the party has established itself as the most productive force in the local Congress, reporting a 42% legislative effectiveness rate. To prepare for the 2027 elections, the party has begun appointing coordinators for the defense of the ‘4T movement’ in several key states, including Aguascalientes, Campeche, Colima, Sinaloa, and Querétaro. In Aguascalientes, Nora Ruvalcaba has been selected to lead this effort in a region where the PAN maintains a strong position.
