Morena political leadership in Quintana Roo

Eugenio Segura Vázquez, the former Secretary of Finance for Quintana Roo, was named the Morena candidate for the state governorship. This selection is viewed as part of a strategic alliance between Morena and the Green Ecological Party of Mexico (PVEM), a political arrangement that has reportedly seen the governorship serve as a concession to the PVEM in exchange for legislative support.

Following his candidacy, Segura was appointed as the state coordinator for the Defense of Transformation and National Sovereignty in Quintana Roo. He confirmed he would remain away from the Senate indefinitely to focus on strengthening Morena’s territorial structure and political unity across the state’s 11 municipalities ahead of the 2027 elections.

The appointment has drawn criticism from federal deputy Marybel Villegas Canché, who questioned the transparency of the internal survey used for the selection. Villegas alleged that the methodology and involved companies were not disclosed and raised concerns regarding Segura’s previous affiliation with the Green Party, suggesting the process may have been manipulated to favor specific interests.
