Actor Morgan Freeman has reaffirmed his commitment to his career at age 89, stating he has no plans to retire and will continue working as long as suitable roles and compensation are available. He is set to reprise his role as U.S. Secretary of State Edwin Mullins in the third season of the Paramount+ series ‘Lioness.’ In addition to his acting work, Freeman has expanded into music with the release of his first musical project, an EP titled ‘Morgan Freeman’s Symphonic Blues Experience.’ Released on August 7 through Decca Records, the 12-track album features Freeman as a producer and narrator rather than a vocalist. The project blends blues traditions with orchestral arrangements from London’s Chineke! Orchestra and includes collaborations with artists such as Taj Mahal, Keb’ Mo’, Shemekia Copeland, Lawrence ‘Boo’ Mitchell, and Tiernii Jackson. The repertoire spans nearly a century of the genre, ranging from the 1927 recordings of Blind Willie Johnson to works by Son House and Albert King. Freeman, who co-founded the Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale, Mississippi, over 25 years ago, describes himself as a ‘blues enthusiast’ and noted that the project is rooted in the music of his childhood in the Mississippi Delta. The album aims to fuse traditional Southern blues with classical and symphonic compositions to reach new global audiences. Profits from the album are designated for the Ground Zero Arts Foundation, and the release is supported by a three-city tour in Houston, Memphis, and Gulfport.
