The repertoire spans nearly a century of the genre, ranging from the 1927 recordings of Blind Willie Johnson to works by Son House and Albert King. Freeman, who co-founded the Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale, Mississippi, over 25 years ago, describes himself as a ‘blues enthusiast’ and noted that the project is rooted in the music of his childhood in the Mississippi Delta. The album aims to fuse traditional Southern blues with classical and symphonic compositions to reach new global audiences. Profits from the album are designated for the Ground Zero Arts Foundation, and the release is supported by a three-city tour in Houston, Memphis, and Gulfport.
