Moroccan House of Councilors committee elections

Overview

The Moroccan House of Councilors held a plenary session to elect new presidents for two permanent commissions: Justice, Legislation, and Human Rights, and Interior, Local Authorities, and Basic Infrastructure.

Following the formation of a new government, the elections reflected a shift in political positioning. Under constitutional and internal regulations, the chairmanship of the Justice Committee is reserved for the opposition. Consequently, Moulay Abderrahmane Abila of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) was elected chair of the Justice, Legislation, and Human Rights Committee, as the RNI moved into the opposition. Aboubakr Abid of the Socialist Party group was elected chair of the Interior, Local Authorities, and Basic Infrastructure Committee.
