Motorcycle accidents in Costa Rica

Overview

Fatal motorcycle-related incidents have been reported in Costa Rica involving different victims.

In August 2026, a 21-year-old man, Axel Leandro Gómez, died in San José after losing control of his motorcycle and striking a highway guardrail. This followed the death of his father, Orlando Alonso Leandro, in a similar accident in May.

In a separate incident, a 61-year-old woman identified as Ms. García died in a hospital in Puntarenas after being struck by a motorcycle while attempting to cross a road in San Mateo, Alajuela. Authorities are investigating whether the motorcyclist remained at the scene or fled.
