Mountain rescue operations in Bulgaria and Greece

Overview

Individual mountain rescue operations were conducted for hikers in Bulgaria and Greece during the summer of 2026.

In late July, the Lakatnik Mountain Rescue Team in Bulgaria successfully extracted a female hiker who became trapped under a rocky overhang near the Vazova eco trail. Rescuers navigated steep terrain and high temperatures to guide her to safety.

In mid-August, the Greek Fire Service responded to an emergency call on Mount Olympus. Firefighters located and transported a 50-year-old Belarusian woman, who had been injured in the Agios Spileo area, to an ambulance for medical care.
