Mozambique mining production increases
Overview
Mozambique has reported significant growth in its mining sector during the first half of 2026, specifically regarding graphite and ruby production.
Graphite production nearly quadrupled compared to the same period in 2025, reaching 25,474 tonnes. This output exceeded the government’s annual target of 14,815 tonnes by 72%. Officials credited the surge to the operational consistency of the Balama mine in Cabo Delgado and the entry of a new mining company in Niassa province.
Simultaneously, ruby production increased by 61%, totaling more than 3.1 million carats. This performance, largely driven by mining companies in Cabo Delgado, represents approximately 78% of the government’s annual target for the year.
