Mozambique rural enterprise financing initiatives

Overview

The Mozambican government launched the Rural Enterprise Finance Line (LFER) to expand credit access for rural producers, entrepreneurs, and businesses. Developed in partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the initiative aims to drive economic transformation and financial inclusion, specifically targeting women and young entrepreneurs.

Following the launch, Moza Banco assumed management of the LFER, a public revolving fund valued at approximately 726 million meticais. This five-year program provides credit, investment mobilization, and technical assistance to sectors including agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and logistics.

Additionally, Moza Banco partnered with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to establish a 10 million euro credit line dedicated to female entrepreneurs. This specific fund earmarks 40% of its value for businesses with significant female ownership or management, supported by technical assistance from the European Union and the EIB to provide financial literacy and training.
