MTN South Africa has implemented various digital skills training initiatives to address the growing digital-skills gap in Africa. In the Western Cape, the MTN South Africa Foundation and MTN Skills Academy graduated 80 unemployed youths from the Digital Skills for Digital Jobs (DS4DJ) programme, providing accredited qualifications in cybersecurity, data analytics, and systems development. To improve digital and economic inclusion, MTN launched an AI-enabled Job Board feature through its MTN Skills Academy. This platform integrates learning with job discovery and application tracking, helping users align skills with employer requirements. In Nigeria, Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria Limited partnered with Junior Achievement Nigeria to host a 10-day digital bootcamp for over 600 young people across several states, covering fields such as UI/UX design, project management, and data analysis. Expanding its focus in In Ghana, MTN Ghana hosted educational sessions on navigating the digital economy through artificial intelligence (AI). These sessions provided intensive training for journalists and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) regarding the risks and opportunities of AI, including data security and the necessity of human oversight to counter ‘hallucinations’—the generation of false or fabricated information. Experts advised a ‘zero-trust rule’ for free AI tools to prevent the exposure of confidential information. Additionally, the third MTN Masterclass Series in Accra hosted over 120 entrepreneurs to discuss how emerging technologies and strategic partnerships can drive business growth growth. Expanding its reach in Nigeria, the MTN Foundation and competitiveness within Ghana’s SAIL Empowerment Foundation completed a training phase of the MTN-SAIL Teachers’ Fellowship. In partnership with Microsoft, the program provided formal training in responsible AI-assisted teaching to public school educators, aiming to integrate digital transformation landscape. literacy and inquiry-based learning into classrooms across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
