National Multivaccination Campaign in Brazil

Overview

The city of João Pessoa, Brazil, has launched a multivaccination campaign aimed at updating the immunization records of children and adolescents. Following a strategy from the Brazilian Ministry of Health, the initiative targets individuals under the age of 15 to prevent protection gaps. The campaign is scheduled to run through September 1st, utilizing municipal vaccine rooms and mobile points. A dedicated ‘Dia D’ was planned for August 22nd to intensify public access. The program provides vaccines against various diseases, including polio, measles, mumps, rubella, meningitis, hepatitis B, yellow fever, dengue, HPV, diphtheria, tetanus, influenza, and Covid-19.

Following the ‘Dia D’ mobilization, reports from various municipalities indicate significant participation in the national effort. In Santos, nearly 4,000 doses were administered across seven points, while São José applied over 2,000 doses. Other cities reporting activity include Arapongas with 760 applications, Porto Real with over 400, Pato Branco with 555, and Francisco Beltrão with 344 doses. This year’s campaign also features the 20-valent pneumococcal vaccine.

Health officials continue to emphasize the importance of checking vaccination records. In Adamantina, authorities issued an alert regarding low dengue vaccine coverage, urging parents to visit health units. The national campaign remains active through September 1st, allowing residents to update their status at local health centers.
