Oktoberfest 2026 sets record attendance amid accidents

Overview

The 191st Oktoberfest has concluded by setting a new attendance record, drawing 7.4 million visitors. This figure surpasses the previous record of 7.2 million set in 2023, making it the most visited event in the festival’s history, according to director Christian Scharpf.

Consumption metrics also reached new highs. Approximately 6.7 million liters of beer were consumed, marking a 2.7 percent increase over the previous year. Food sales saw a modest rise of two to three percent, with roasted chicken maintaining its popularity.

However, the record-breaking festivities were marked by several serious accidents. On the final day, a 47-year-old employee required resuscitation after a critical injury on a ship swing ride. This followed a fatal incident earlier in the festival involving a 52-year-old security worker at a freefall tower. Additionally, an elderly woman died following a fall involving a carriage horse in the Oide Wiesn section.
