Musi River rejuvenation project land disputes

The Musi River rejuvenation project in Telangana has faced significant legal and social opposition regarding land acquisition processes.

In Bandlaguda Jagir, residents of the Madhu Park Ridge Apartments launched protests after receiving eviction notices from the Rajendranagar Revenue Divisional Officer. Residents have demanded clarity on compensation and rehabilitation, noting that officials failed to address previously submitted objections. One resident, Anita, stated, “Instead of discussing the objections we had given, he was talking about Award I and Award II and said that they would pay compensation.”

In Gandipet, the Telangana High Court issued an interim order restraining the state government from dispossessing landowners in Dargah Khalij Khan village. Petitioners challenged the acquisition of 9.08 acres, alleging that authorities bypassed mandatory procedures such as social impact assessments and ignored specified riverfront buffer zones. The court has adjourned the matter to allow the state government to submit a detailed response.
