Two women and a 9-year-old child went missing while tubing on the Muskegon River in Newaygo County, Michigan. The search was initiated after a vehicle belonging to one of the women was discovered with a broken window near a boat launch. Initial reports indicated the trio was located by Michigan State Police, K-9 teams, and volunteers approximately one mile from the launch site. Later details clarified that the group—identified as Sarah Vida, her son Kayden Kovalcik, and Jazmin Hock—had been stranded for three days after their tubes popped upon hitting logs. Rescuers from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources eventually found the group roughly seven miles from their entry point. The individuals had been navigating dense brush and stinging nettles in swimwear and were found with a nearly empty water bottle and a broken phone. Conservation officers used footprints and broken vegetation to track the group to their location in the woods. Officers described the successful rescue as a “miracle.”
