In early July 2026 Elon Musk used X to post more than 300 messages on race and immigration that targeted UK politics, amplifying far‑right figures such as Restore Britain leader Rupert Lowe and activist Tommy Robinson. Later that month Musk was interviewed by The Economist’s editor‑in‑chief Zanny Minton Beddoes. He denied far‑right or racist labels, said he supports “normal people”, and argued that secure‑border and “sensible spending” policies are not extremist. On 23 July he reiterated a prediction that a civil war in the United Kingdom was “inevitable” if mass immigration continued unchecked, describing the influx as antithetical to Western values and a “serious and growing problem”. Musk accused the media of hostility and claimed his large X audience demonstrated broader support.
