Vehicle fires in Bihar, India

Overview

In early August 2026, two separate vehicle fires involving passengers occurred in Bihar, India.

On August 3, a fire broke out in the engine area of the Samastipur-Saharsa passenger train at the Simri Bakhtiyarpur railway station. The blaze spread to two coaches, but all passengers were evacuated safely with no reported casualties. Railway officials launched an inquiry into a possible short-circuit or technical fault near the battery box.

On August 12, a passenger bus traveling on the NH-27 Barji overbridge in Muzaffarpur caught fire. Sub-Divisional Fire Officer Amrita Kumari stated the fire was triggered by a short circuit. All 35 passengers on board were successfully evacuated without injury.
