Nagaland University environmental and administrative efforts

Overview

Nagaland University has undertaken several initiatives focused on waste management, environmental sustainability, and administrative efficiency.

On October 21, the university’s Committee for Mission LiFE hosted a lecture at the Lumami campus featuring Prof. Ligy Philip from IIT Madras. The session addressed the importance of waste segregation, recycling, and composting, while highlighting the environmental risks of improper disposal, such as leachate contaminating water sources and plastic waste degrading soil structure.

Following this, on October 28, the university conducted a ‘Dedicated One-Day Event’ as part of the Government of India’s Special Campaign 6 across its three campuses. This campaign included tree plantation, the disposal of scrap and e-waste, and a ‘Best out of Waste’ competition. The initiative also focused on administrative improvements, such as transitioning to e-office systems to reduce paper usage and improving the speed of public grievance redressal.
