Nanjing University perovskite solar technology development

Overview

Researchers at Nanjing University have made advancements in perovskite solar technology aimed at improving efficiency and stability for industrial-scale production.

Initial developments focused on creating a super-stable, ultra-thin protective coating to prevent material degradation from moisture and oxygen. This coating allows for the development of tandem modules that layer perovskite onto traditional silicon to capture a wider light spectrum.

Subsequent research achieved a record efficiency of 27.35% using a perovskite-organic tandem solar cell. This was accomplished through a new low-bandgap acceptor designed to enhance near-infrared light capture and improve photocurrent matching. The device demonstrated stability by maintaining 80% of its initial performance after 744 hours of continuous illumination.
