Narcotics enforcement and welfare initiatives in J&K

Overview

Police in Jammu and Kashmir have conducted several anti-narcotics operations resulting in multiple arrests and the seizure of various substances.

Initial operations in the Anantnag and Jammu regions led to the arrest of several individuals. In Anantnag, authorities recovered approximately 183.2 grams of charas, while in Jammu, police seized 113 grams of heroin and two pistols during separate incidents. Subsequent efforts in Anantnag, Shopian, and Kulgam resulted in the arrest of numerous individuals and the recovery of several kilograms of charas and cannabis-like substances.

Building on these enforcement efforts, the administration has launched the ‘Nasha Mukt J&K 100 Days Abhiyan’, a large-scale initiative aimed at combating drug abuse. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has noted the region’s coordinated efforts as a potential national model. Under this campaign, authorities reported over 7.21 million outreach events, with law enforcement registering 1,187 FIRs and arresting 1,349 individuals.

These operations have led to the seizure of immovable properties valued at ₹98.28 crore and movable assets worth ₹7.04 crore belonging to traffickers. To support long-term recovery, a ‘Rehabilitation and Socio-Economic Reintegration Scheme for Drug Abuse Victims, 2026’ is being developed to provide a structured three-year framework for victims.
