National Geographic and Disney+ have announced a three-part documentary series series, “Chilean Mine Rescue: Race Against Time,” chronicling the 2010 San José copper-gold mine disaster in Chile’s Atacama Desert. Produced by Emmy Award-winning Blast Films, the series, titled “Chilean Mine Rescue: Race Against Time” (also referred to as “The Rescue of the Chilean Miners: A Race Against Time”), series details the 69-day ordeal of 33 miners trapped nearly half a mile underground. underground following a catastrophic collapse on August 5, 2010. The production features previously unseen cell phone footage recorded by the miners while trapped, providing a rare perspective on their inner turmoil survival. The series includes interviews with survivors, family members, and rescue teams, marking the first time several miners have appeared in an international documentary. Directors Chloe Campbell and James Parris stated the series aims to move beyond standard news coverage by focusing on human elements of survival, elements, the long-term psychological effects on those involved, effects, and the collective engineering effort required for effort.
