Natural disaster responses in Peru and Panama

Overview

Peru and Panama are managing various natural disaster emergencies. In Peru, widespread forest fires have prompted the Ministry of Defense to deploy military personnel for land and aerial operations, alongside the acquisition of additional firefighting equipment. Authorities have also identified over 2,000 critical zones vulnerable to climate-related landslides and floods.

In Panama, officials are responding to the aftermath of a significant earthquake. Initial efforts focused on distributing humanitarian aid, including food and water, and repairing roads to reach remote areas. Following the seismic activity, authorities have transitioned to safety inspections of school structures in districts such as La Chorrera and Chame. Additionally, local folklore festivals in the Coclé province were suspended in solidarity with those affected by the earthquake.
