NBA matchup between San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets

Overview

The San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets met at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas. Heading into the game, the Spurs were looking to avoid an 0-2 start following a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, while the Rockets were coming off a victory against the Dallas Mavericks.

The Rockets won the contest 114-110, marking their second consecutive victory and maintaining a perfect 2-0 start to the season. Alperen Sengun led the Houston offense with 29 points, 7 assists, and 7 rebounds, notably scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter to reclaim the lead when the Spurs were ahead 104-103. Amen Thompson contributed a double-double, including a decisive block on a final layup attempt by Victor Wembanyama to prevent a tie and secure the win.

With this loss, the Spurs fell to 0-2. Victor Wembanyama recorded 25 points and 13 rebounds in the defeat, while Dylan Harper scored 20 points. Following the loss, Harper expressed confidence in the team, noting that the group is still “figuring out their rhythm” while adjusting to new rotations and communication patterns.

After the winless start, the Spurs secured their first victory of the season with a 122-106 win over the Dallas Mavericks. Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 23 points, seven rebounds, and four blocks, while Dylan Harper contributed 22 points. De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle added 19 points each to help San Antonio avoid an 0-3 start. Despite a standout performance from Dallas rookie Sergio de Larrea, who scored a career-high 21 points, the Spurs responded to a third-quarter deficit with a decisive 17-5 run to open the fourth period.
