NEC autonomous SCM AI agent launch

NEC Corporation has announced the upcoming September launch of the ‘NEC SCM AI Agent’, a service designed to autonomously manage various supply chain management tasks. The tool integrates large language models with machine learning and proprietary AI to perform numerical forecasting and optimization tasks, such as demand forecasting, procurement negotiations, and production planning.

By operating across disparate systems and datasets, the agent aims to reduce manual labor, minimize inventory discrepancies, and prevent opportunity losses. The service will be provided through the company’s ‘AI Platform Service’ to ensure security and governance. NEC intends to sell the customizable solution to 100 companies over the next five years, with annual pricing starting at 18 million yen, depending on functionality and data volume.

In addition to the SCM agent, NEC is expanding its broader AI-driven initiatives. On October 1, the company will launch NEC Learning & Career Co., Ltd., a new entity designed to support employee growth and career development through integrated human resources development functions. Furthermore, NEC has been selected for a third consecutive year by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications to continue developing AI technology for identifying false or misleading information. This technology is intended to assist news organizations and government agencies by analyzing text, images, audio, and video to verify content accuracy.
