Negeri Sembilan ethnic representation shift

In late July 2026, Malaysia’s Election Commission announced that the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state legislative election would be held in August. Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid said that, should the National Front win, two Indian representatives would be appointed to the state’s ruling council to boost Indian community representation.

Following the election on 1 August, the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) won two seats—Chennah and Repah—returning to the Negeri Sembilan assembly after a 13‑year absence. The victories were credited to the BN–PN pact that consolidated Malay votes. While the MCA’s success restored Chinese representation and positioned the party for a place on the state executive council, the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) failed to secure any seats, leaving the Indian community without elected representation despite the earlier appointment proposal.
